About Paul

I had a teacher in high school, Clayton Oilar, who inspired me early on to be a leader.  My parents taught me work and moral ethics, Mr. Oilar taught me how to apply those ethics.  One of his favorite sayings was “lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way.”  I have tried to live by that, with particular emphasis on the “lead.”

When I was in the military and felt we weren’t getting the training we needed to accomplish our mission, I took the lead and helped build training which led our unit into top combat readiness leading up to Desert Storm.

I worked for an employer who was neglecting workplace safety, so I organized my colleagues and convinced the employer they needed to improve those working conditions, which they did.

I have been an advocate for working people at the legislature, county commission, and city council for more than a decade. I served on our Ward 4 Neighborhood Advisory Board, on the Governor’s Workforce Investment Board, the Advisory Board for the Division of Industrial Relations, and have been an active volunteer with my church.

I have worked for years to affect change from the outside.  Now, Mr. Oilar’s words are driving me to take my leadership to the next level. I am running for Reno City Council so that I can be a voice for working people, and a bigger part of helping our community grow and prosper. I am asking for your vote.

In my first term in office I have worked hard to represent the interests of the Citizens of Reno and while we have been faced with a lot of growth I have tried to address the impacts on the community.  For specifics see my issues page.   I pledge I will continue to work hard for the hard working men and women of Reno if I am reelected and I am asking for your vote.

Rhonda and I have been married for 32 years.
